Hey everyone,

I am looking at buying a tractor (first one ever), and joined the site to try and soak up some knowledge and first hand experience.

I went and test drove a Mahindra Max 28XL and the Mahindra 3016. I liked them both, but like the size of the 3016 better.

Some of the things that drove me to look at Mahindras, was the price, warranty, and lift capacity. The dealer I am talking to has a package deal with tractor, 2 implements, and trailer. His price for all that is lower than my local JD dealer for tractor and 1 implement.

I am just looking for the feedback/reviews on this tractor, as well as some things to look for.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. I have a Mahindra max 28XL and have almost 45 hours on her now and I've enjoyed every minute. So far I've used it to remove a few trees roots and all, snow removal, and leveling yards. The reason i bought max was size, strength, and turning ability.

Welcome to the forum & the wonderful world of tractor ownership.

Buying any sized tractor is a significant investment so have a clear view of how you intend to use it before you jump into a purchase - e.g shuttle shift or HST transmission, size, mowing, cultivation or clearing ???

IMO if I only had 1 tractor a Front End Loader (FEL) would be mandatory, as would a 4/1 bucket, All Wheel Drive, + 2-3 aux hydraulic remotes....etc.

Once you settle on your ideal spec - look what's in the market in terms of brands & your budget & (as it's a buyers market) deals to be had with finance &/or discounting - generally in sub 45hp it's a choice between the Japanese Kubota/Iseki/Yanmar, the Korean Kioti/Daedong, the Indian Mahindra or perhaps paying a premium for CUT from an old established brand & dealer (JD, Case New Holland, Massey Ferguson ..etc) consider also the established brand CUT's generally have major components (e.g most JD's CUTS use a Japanese Yanmar engine) &/or are "badge engineered" with production/design/engineering outsourced (e.g. New Holland with their "Boomer" range)........+(whilst I wouldn't recommend any) there's the various Chinese brands usually at close to give away prices.

As for me I've run most, if not all brands over the years farming & have no prefence for brand/colour - I'll buy whatever brand/model is the best overall value at the time for the task, having said that a good local dealer can make or break any brand:- in CUT's up to 30hp we currently have Iseki's, Kubota's & JD's , at this stage the intent is to replace Kubota's with Kioti/Daedong (Mahindra is not on our shopping list purely because the distribution/dealer network is a shambles in Australia & we've have some excellent recent experince with a 100hp Kioti/Daedong).

I own a Mahindra 28Max ( 104 hrs) For my needs, it has been awesome! I built a 22000 gal pond and I use it primarily for moving rocks, mulch etc. I'm now having a major problem and the dealer has closed shop! there is no dealer close to me and the competition hasn't any interest in helping...
So if you're considering a Mahindra and are mechanically inclined, you'll be ok.

I own a Mahindra 3016 hst, I love it!. I have a few issues at the moment. I'm starting to have starting issues IE it wont turn over everytime, have to hit it several times and it will start to crank. I have about 500 hours on it. I am a mechanic so not worried about it, as I can fix it. The other issue Im having at the moment it when I let a friend borrow it, when I get it back, the forward/reverse foot pedal is sluggish and hard to push down? Feels like a hydraulic issue, but why when I let a friend borrow it I get it back with the same condition?....a mystery to me!
