I bought this machine back in 1988 from Brunswick Home and Garden in Brunswick, Maine. It has been through three kids two of which did everything from break things that should not break, to sticking the garden hose into the muffler and turning it on.
The orange paint on the snowblower and hood is original, rear body was blasted and repainted once in 1999. Frame and engine have been repainted twice. Ariens replaced the snowblower housing due to a paint issue in 1992. The seat was replaced in 2000, and again in 2016.
I had to rebuild the hydraulic steering box twice, and replaced it with a used unit back in 2004. The power steering hydraulic piston had an additional seal location cut in to give it two O ring seals, however they still eventually leak and replace the them at least once a year, sometimes twice. The hydraulic hose to the steering piston has been replaced twice with all the others replaced in 2016. Put on a new steering wheel and steering shaft bearings in 2013.
Rebuilt/replaced the front PTO shaft bearing three times, and the rear PTO once. Have replaced the transmission cooling fan 9 times, and faithfully replace the trans filter every 50 hours.
The Kohler Magnum M20 engine has been a workhorse.
Liked I have always told the dealer, I would buy a new unit when either the motor or transmission goes. (of course I would fix before selling). Well almost thirty years later it still runs strong with no end in site, and with Ariens presently out of the garden tractor market in the USA, I am now looking at replacing it, and currently considering the Ariens B Series 4Trac, 4wd Garden Tractor (available in Europe), or a 4wd Cub or Yanmar in the 25hp.
