It don;t appear to be a typical military marking. Usually they have a blocked background with stenciled info such as Unit, Load Increment number if a Mobility item, weight, cube, shop etc. It would also be on the front top right corner as well.
I am thinking someone worked in a factory in dept. 225 and there clock number was 808. A lot of people mark there personal stuff this way, all my personal tools have my clock number and initials on them. The QC dept. marks all our personal tools that have to go to QC to be calibrated with dept. number and clock number. For example I work in dept. 301 and have a four digit clock number. Harry
