Wow I need to get mine pumped. 3 using the system for last 6 years and no pump yet. I have one scheduled for this month. I have always kept up with maintenance, air filters on unit, and fixing plumbing & drain field issues. I find some of those numbers QUITE aggresive. I think 3-5 years is normal for a family and less often for 1-2 people.

Often

I have a Jet aeration system and it is inspected twice each year (a rule of our homeowner's association) and it definitely needs to be pumped out every 2- 3 years for our family of five. Regular cleaning is the best preventive maintenance.

How big is your tank (everyone that happens to know)??

We're building 3 bedroom house, right now, 2 people, eventually we hope to raise 2-3 kids through that place in the next 20 years.

They are putting in a 1500 gallon septic tank (conventional system).

I'd like to hear how big your tanks are, and any cautions or atta-boy's someone might have to say about my proposed tank size.

Our local village ordinance dictates that you pump them out every two years. It's amazing how much the price of pumping has gone up in the last ten years.

My sept guy says every two years, But, if you have say 5 people living there you may need it done every year, Better to get it pumped out BEFORE it needs it than wait untill it is ooozzzing into the yard!

I don't know the size of it since I bought the house from someone else. I'll look through the papers and see what it says... if anything.

You should have a septic tank location and information spec letter as a requirement of the house mortgage. Might not be there if it is an older house.

i can always tell where the septic tank is... In the winter, its the 1st thing to melt the snow.. i see a square of melted snow on the lawn.. and in the summer the grass above it always dies early..

Sounds to me like the tank was not burried deep enough.
