On the way to "window shop" at my local HD store I came across this wheelbarrow laying along the side of the road. It probably came off some landscaping or construction truck..could have caused an accident if someone was following behind. Anyway, I loaded it into my trunk and headed back home with my "find". It was in fair shape, rust, scratches, dents, missing screws but definitely worth keeping. (The wheel and foam filled tire looked brand new).

I tore it completely apart, wire wheeled the paint off the metal parts to as much bare metal as I could, and repainted them with Hammerite dark green (hammered finish) paint. Sanded down the wood parts, stained and painted the handles. Painted the body the same orange color...what the heck.

This is what it looked like disassembled. Not all the metal parts are in the pic as a fews were in various states of stripping or painting.

After staining and painting...there's really a science to putting one of things together. It's not just start bolting. And there's a definite order that has to be followed...either that or I'm a complete klutz! Put on brackets and then removed/loosened them to make something else fit! I also replaced missing screws and added washers and lock washers.

It was a fun project and now I have a decent, strong and "new looking" WB.

On to the next project!

I gotta say you do good work, and also seem to have a lot of free time;) :D I also am a big fan of finding others "junk" and fixing it up. Have some fun, and save a buck or two to boot.

If you were closer, I would let you do that to my wheel barrow. Its iron wheeled that I have had since 1956. I've replaced the handles twice by splitting a 2x4 down the middle and whittling the end of the handle round. I put bondo in the pan too. Its in sad shape again and needs reworking again. You did a great job.
