Well, looks like my brother scored a 953 the other day. Paid $300.00 for it. Came with a mower deck, but no other implements. FYI a 953 is a 9hp Kohler, 5 is code for electric start, and 3 refers to 1963. The 953 came with 15" rear wheels instead of 12", and has a slightly longer wheelbase. Also it was the first year for WH hydraulic lift.

The rear tires are rotted AG tires in a size 6.40x15. I'm wondering if we can fit a slightly larger (easier to find) size.

We are supposed to pick it up this coming weekend, I'll try to post pictures of it.

Looks pretty good! As to your tires, have you considered that 15" rims were very popular car/truck size and you might scorw a pair of agressive snow tires at your local salvage yard? It would be a cheap way to get good rubber until you figure out what the final solution is gonna be, and may be a decent final solution.

Update,

We got the 953 running like a top. Starts and runs like new, no smoke. Engine is a K-241. Hydraulics work well too.

He may end up going to some type of snow tire, however he hasn't really begun to look around for a 15" Ag tire yet.

I may have to zap the pics soon, I use HP Photo, and I guess they are pullin the plug on the freebie pic storage.

Juggler, Why dont you just post your pictures direct to this site from your camera?. Thats how I do it and Andy said they will never be removed from the archives. Then you dont have to put up with the likes of HP-Photo.
