I don't know why I got up when I did on a Sunday morning on the 30th of Jan 2005 at about 7:30AM. I went to turn the coffee pot on and looked out the kitchen window and seen the old Hubbard Faermers and Seed building still standing. They were in the process of tearing the building down. As I was waiting for the coffee to brew I went to the back door and was looking out. I was thinking I should go get my camera and take a picture before it's gone. I was watching the building trying to convince myself to go get the camera. I don't know why I paused as the next thing I saw was the building falling to the ground. I watched as it hit the ground and the top broke into a million pieces. Then the building was engulfed by dust as I stared at it. Stunned that it had fallen to the ground. Will try to attach picture from local paper.

After the dust cleared I took the following pictures. The fiest one is from my back door.

This is my first attempt on pictures since I got my Mac back.

Thats a shame looked like a lot of good lumber went to waste. Still had the bucket elevator in it i see. Man those are a pain to work on. I'm surprise no one bought it and made a house out of it. I have seen people do that before at least it would still be standing.

Jody,
They did try to auction it off earlier but it had to be taken down within 90 days. They want the land for vendor space for the Bike Rally. I heard one contractor wanted 80,000.00 to tear it down. He was going o hire a crane to lift the top off. The contractor that got it bid it at 25.000.00 and he fell it like a tree. I didn't see it wiggle at all, it just started to fall.

In my neck of the woods, they are tearing down the old cement mills. Sometimes the price of progress gets pretty high, and sometimes folks are in too much of a hurry to replace the old with the new.

Wonder?

There are new buildings being built all the time. Then someone looks around and sees unused buildings, and decides to get rid of them. Yet there are many serviceable buildings waiting for an occupant, rather than destruction.

If the building was torn down to make room for a bike rally then you would think that there would be a demand for the space in the building.

I guess that it is the American way. Everything is desposable.

Bike Rally?

You mean like Sturgis? I just noticed where your from.

I hate to see a piece of history destroyed like that...for years people will give directions, refer to, or talk about where something used to be.

At least it's not another WalMart, K'mart, HD or Lowes. I can honestly say that I can go ten minutes in any direction and drive by two of the three box stores.

Regards, Mark
