My grandmother recently gave me her old John Deere 212. For as long as I can remember it never drove at full speed. When I drove it as a kid I would wedge a piece of wood under the clutch/brake lever to make it go faster. It has always driven with the brake/clutch halfway depressed. The variator lever when moved back and forth does nothing, it doesn't move the linkage. I tried adjusting it by 1. Undoing the spark plug, 2. Loosening the nut below the variator 3. Turning the engine over and watch the brake/clutch move into the up right position. When I did this the brake/clutch didn't move all. I don't know a lot about engines and machinery but I am trying to learn, I am hoping someone is able to help. Thanks.
