JD 3203 safety switch ?

173 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  HLWEST
15-year old JD 3203 (hydrostatic) developed engine cut-off problem when shifting to either forward or reverse. Local dealer service department suggested replacing safety switch located on bottom of seat. New switch “allowed us to move tractor rearward for approximately 4 feet and then shut engine off.” “Continued working gear shifter and it finally allowed movement forward for about 3 feet then shut off.” Used emery cloth on female contacts of safety switch with no response. Anyone else ever have this problem? Would appreciate positive suggestions. Thanks. HLWest

I would recommend removing the kill switch as that seems to be causing the problem. All you have to do is cut the 2 wires going to the switch and splice them together.

Sounds like a safety switch on the shift mechanism .I would bypass all of them to see if the problem goes away then hook up one at a time till it surfaces again

Yep. You were right. Unplugged the connection and placed a wire shunt in the receptacle side of the sensor and then tractor ran like a top! Many thanks for your suggestion!
