Dear all

I have the old cylinder liner out and have the new one ready to insert. I have replaced one rubber sealing ring at the bottom of the water case, yet I have been given 2 per cylinder. Apologies for being dim, but where does the second ring fit? Is it a double seal?

Many thanks in advance.

Just throwing this out there..... Is there a groove in the block perhaps for the second seal if not in the liner? Sure seems like there'd be at least a second seal.

At the bottom that is......

Do you have a manual for the engine?

Hello and thank you. No mention of second seal in manual. The seal groove has some slack perhaps, but why not fit a bigger, single seal? There was only one on the liner I removed.

Do the old seals look close to one of the new seals?

Just of curiousity, I checked a kit from a supplier:
Overhaul kit that contains two sets of seals, you only use one seal per liner.:
https://www.agrilineproducts.com/case-international-engine-overhaul-kit-d239-engine-8550
One of the variants:
https://www.agrilineproducts.com/case-international-liner-seal-gold-stripes-8508
The other:
https://www.agrilineproducts.com/case-international-liner-seal-red-stripes-8507

Your liner kit has two type of seals in order to cover two types of engines. Either an engine with red stripes case, or an engine with gold stripes case. I do not have a clue what it means, but it is probably clear when you see the engine.

According to this Swedish supplier, 574 has the red stripes which means that the seal with 5 mm thickness and 110 mm inner diameter should be used:
https://www.oieparts.com/Produkt/en...ectionId=1000194790&model=VT_TraktorCASEIH574

https://www.oieparts.com/Produkt/liner-seal-each-5-0-mm-red-(3228344-R1)?sectionId=1000194191

This is the other one (not 574), yellow means gold I suppose:
https://www.oieparts.com/Produkt/liner-seal-each-4-7-mm-yellow-(3228348-R1)?sectionId=1000194191

That means that the thicker and larger one of the two in the kit fits 574.

Edit
Discovered that OIE even comes in the English flavour, changed the links.

Brilliant. Thank you very much. I haven't changed a liner before and didn't want to make a schoolboy error. The 5mm seal it is!
