My 3414 was having some issues with water entering oil and coming out the exhaust. So I am thinking that there is some issue with the head gasket. I ordered a new copper gasket vs the aluminum/paper one that was on there previously. My question is about the two water passages on the head that are not on the block. It looks like they have been filled in. Not sure if this was a factory thing or done later. Will this cause any issues if I just place a new gasket on there(gasket has these holes cut out)? Is there a reason that you think these have been blocked off?

I suspect you are looking in the wrong area for the leak(s). The engine is wet lined, and the liner seals fail, as do the liners themselves from cavitation erosion.

As for the water passages, carefully inspect both for rust accumulation. If there is none plugging the works, they will not have passages there. IH used that block forever, and made running changes that result in slight variations.
