Was it a domestic or wild pig?
He said the "head was too big to mount" --- that is BS...anyone seen the large bison, elk, moose and other heads mounted? Something that unbelievable with '9" tusks' would have certainly been preserved. I think we got ourselves a tale of a different kind.
Comments I have found on newsgroups on this hog tale:
1. I think his profession as a hog guide would encourage him to ensure it was well documented for advertising purposes. The fact that he chose to not keep so much as the tusks to verify it would cause me to suspect as scam and steer clear of doing business with him. Until such time as he is will to have the animal exhumed and examined I will suspect professional skullduggery. Most people who have claimed such animals seem to have bought a domestic hog and tried to pass them off.
2. Picture looks real but I don't know where they are getting 12 feet for length. The guy is standing in a hole, the hogs nose is a little lower than his waist and the hind legs are stretched out. Use your imagination a little and put the hogs nose on the ground and the guy standing flat footed next to him I suspect 7 feet might be a little closer to the truth as long as he doesn't have a 5 foot tail curled up the stretch out.

He said, "It was too big to let someone else shoot." If he had let someone else shoot it, if it was real, it would only enhance his guide business. At this point, all there is is skepticism. He should have at least called Fish & Game to check it out. Hell, I'm sure Fish & Game would have found some way of mouting it. Also, according to the article, it was a feral hog not a wild boar, a bit of a difference.
