My guess is ...someone shortened the Drive shaft and that weld failed.

Typical.....The only way to adjust Driveline length to match tractor is to cut and reweld that particular piece. New drivelines don't have this issue as the "mateing" parts run the full length of DL. This type of older driveline only has that short section that "mates".......so its a cut and reweld to change length.

Be sure and "clock" the u joints before welding this back together.
As in.....make the yokes on both ends be "LIKE"....each other.
< matching twins ,the same direction....etc......someone else can describe this better I am sure..this is not my strong point on the keyboard.
