It's starting to get that time of year again. Don't forget to do a tune up on the furnace, wood stove and/or garage heaters. If you're like me, they've been dormant all spring & summer. It's not too late to do the annual maintenance & try them out so they'll be ready to go when needed.

I was standing in the yard yesterday thinking that same thing while looking at my wood stove chimney, pondering the cleaning and maintenance it still needs. As usual the days are getting shorter and I'm running behind finishing up the outside work.

And it is VERY IMPORTANT to remove any compustable material that may have accumulated over the summer around your fireplaces, wood stoves, and heaters. And if possible, throw out ALL those stinking candles our wives have around the house. My good friend lost his house and 95% of their possessions in a fire started by a candle knocked over by the family dog. He figures it went from a candle burning to the flames coming out of his roof in 15 minutes.
