Hello everyone sort of new tractor guy here. I purchased a Ford 5000 with 256 motor last fall. While bushogging last year I noticed when shutting pto off it would stop but took couple minutes to come back on after engaging. After some research at that time it appeared to be pto pump going bad, also not sure cause I'm just internet mechanic with this tractor. Fired it up this spring and pto is on as soon as you crank it and the pto lever in the off position. Any help would greatly be appreciated thanks

Hello Dylace74, welcome to the tractor forum.

It might be that your PTO brake is shot. Does your PTO turn with power? Normally a bush hog will have no power in these circumstances. You can pry a 2"x4" against the PTO shaft and stop it.

You may have damaged/warped discs in your clutch pack. This could have been caused by operating the clutch pack at too low operating pressure causing the discs to slip. Get a shop/repair manual for your tractor and check pressures to the clutch pack to be sure everything else is ok.
