This is pathetic.#[email protected]$: The first thing that comes to mind is that the TALLAHASSEE police chief needs to be fired ane arresed and the police department placed under marshall authority and supervision. This is unbelievable. Young kids are going to do these kinds of things and it is incumbent upon the adults to teach and discipline otherwise. Nothing like the having the "JBT's" come to get your child to meter out discipline and justice!

Chief, technically this is an assault. And when a complaint is filed, and there is supporting evidence, the police are required to make an arrest. Like the article states: "city policy requires officers to handcuff juveniles when taking them to the county's Juvenile Assessment Center."

When there's a fight at our school, we are required by law to call the police, to file assault charges, and have the "children" arrested. Our school, as a courtesy, attempts to contact the parents so they can be there when their 'rights' are read to them, before they're taken to the juvenile detention facility. Approximately 1/6th of our kids (100+/-) already have a probation/parole officer, so they're used to it anyway. We've got kids as old as 17 in our middle school, so we have to, to "protect" the other children.
