I Live in zone 6 and you might be interested in some of the preparations we make for the inevitable cold season:

1.Moved plants into greenhouse, the Vincas are going to grow till February and then drop there copious amount of tiny tiny seeds which will be put into trays for the following year!

2, Pineapples have been in garden all summer, brought inside today and will fruit this winter!!

3. Next big chore around this ranch will be making little remnants out of tons and tons of flying, walking, crawling leaves predominately Plantain and Oak.

4. Here is a baffle I made from an old bumper insert from an old Buick or something! BTW anyone can do this and it works like a champ!!

Dean,
beautiful porch greenhouse area. Wish I could have something like that here in upstate NY. Would love to see some growing in the real cold months to break the winter blues. Gets so cold up here on porch that nothing will survive and grow. Would cost a fortune to try and heat.
Gotta get the tractor all serviced and ready for the enevitable snow removal. The snow removal keeps us sane "somewhat" up here as it keeps our minds from thinking about the winter blahs. Just keeps us soooo tired we don't have time to get depressed.
