Hello, I am trying to help a lady friend get her Craftsman GT6000 working. It won't start but I am trying to figure that out. What has me really confused is this. Last year, just before the extended warranty ended she had a sears tech guy work on it and he said it was fine. When I opened the hood I saw a hose coming out from behind the vacuum fuel pump. The hose is about 1/4 inch outside diameter and about 2 feet long. the other end of the hose is attached to nothing and has a screw in the end of it. Does anyone know what this hose could be and what it should be attached to? The fuel lines and vacuum hose that are suppose to be running to and from the pump are all in place.

So you can see the picture of the fuel pump and all the lines are attached. (sorry it's blurry). The line coming up from the lower right is the fuel inlet. The line going off to the left is the fuel outlet to the carburator. The short line going into the valve cover is the vacuum line that drives the pump. the second picture shows a line coming out to the right from behind the fuel pump. Its about 2 feet long and capped off with a screw as you can see there. I have no idea where this line is suppose to go or why its capped off.

does that line actually plug into the fuel pump ?, or is it pushed down behind the pump, a clear photo would have helped, if you take another, could you take it looking down to where the hose goes to the pump, I have never seen 4 hoses to a fuel pump, maybe a rare one there>

I will try to take another picture tomorrow. The tractor isnt at my house. That line is not attached to the fuel pump as far as I know. It actually runs behind the plastic engine cowl. I'll pull the cowling off tomorrow and try to see where that end of the line goes to. One guy I talked to on the phone said I should be looking for a vacuum nipple for the line under the crankcase

I am only guessing here, have a look around the carby and intake manifold and see if there is a nipple in that area, even a vacuum operated throttle setup, (not likely) looking at the photo and the way the hose is shaped to fit along the cowling, looks like it is part of the engine.

if the hose attaches to a fitting inside the cowl and is inline with the flywheel fins, this then could be a vacuum line, but until you lift the cowl this is only guessing.

So I took the cowl off. The line originates on a nipple on the air filter housing. It then runs into a coupling which connects it to the longer piece which goes to nowhere. I checked around the fuel take (which is under the seat) and looked for where the other end should go but found nothing. I pulled the fuel pump and Im gona order a new one since they don't cost much. I also bought a new starter solinoid (I burned the old one out with my truck battery) and I bought a new battery for it.

If that hose is long enough to reach the fuel tank, then I would say the hose is part of gas vapour reclamation, are you able to feel around the top of the fuel tank, there possibly will be a fitting that fits into a grommet in the tank and the hose connects to a nipple on that fitting, or there maybe a cast nipple on the fuel filler neck,

if the mower is later 2010 then it will have the environmental gear on it.
a photo of the vapour hose on my zero turn to give you an idea.
