Can anyone ID this lawnmower motor & its use?

Ok, so you guys think you are sharp... can you id this motor and/or its use?
Even Kevin would be proud of this..

For a little background info...

The motor uses Gas and ended up being worth somewhere around 50,000$....

Gotta be expensive due to the history of what it ran. I'll guess that it's the starter motor of Kennedy's PT boat, or something like that.

SJ,

Is putting the "$" at the end, rather than at the front of "50,000", a clue?

If it is worth $50,000 (Fifty Thousand US Dollars), it would be "valuable" in my book...LOL

The story is...

The place next to us in Grassy Key (fla keys, around mile marker 55)
at 4:00 am in october saw 4 guys on their dock.. They could not speak english all they could say was border patrol...

So the owner of the camp called 911, and immigrations came.
there were 4 of them, they were cuban immigrants and once they hit american soil they are ours...

Heres their fuel system... and a part of their life raft (a truck inner tube)

there were a few jugs of water and a few cans of tuna. Cuba is 90 miles from key west, but grassey key is 55 miles north of key west, so they travelled in this tub.. 145-150 miles

The mower motor was connected to the shaft and a propeller.. there was a little rudder to steer and a few oars...

I guess it would be considered a 'shaft drive'...

according to the camp owner... he was told that each of the 4 refugees.. upon hitting american soil are rewarded 10,000$ each, medical treatment, and a years housing and insurance..

so the boat was worth 40,000 & i guessed 10,000 for a years housing/insurance for the 4 guys...

good to be an american.. The boat was a real piece of crap.. i would not take it out of the bay let alone across the ocean...

They really must have wanted to get here...

When you see the American flag burned abroad and crowds of people chanting "Die Yankee Dog!" it is kind of heartwarming to think that people will risk their lives in a sad little boat to come to our country. You don't see people putting that kind of effort and risk to gain entrance to Lybia, Syria, Russia, etc. It6 must not be so bad here after all. :)

Yea, in cuba you would be doing well to have a sorry boat like that. Did anyone see the old truck they put pontoons on and tried to come over on?

hi it was posted above but probably lost in all the pics.... cuban refugees... landed in southern florida.. in the middle of the florida keys a place called grassy key about 150 miles north of cuba by ocean.

the camp owner got to keep the boat... he was thinking about selling it on Ebay. i would doubt that he would recoup the 50,000$ that it cost us all.....
