My best, so far...

is my JD 170. 14hp Kawasaki, 38" deck, 5 speed. Runs and cuts great. $45, delivered, from my dealer's boneyard. All I have done to it, so far, is plug, filters, oil change and lube.

sixchows,

I still pinch myself when I fire it up. LOL

I guess I should have tried the lottery or something, but felt I had I had already hit a good jackpot.

The dealer does have a JD160 in the boneyard. 17hp Kawasaki and rough bagger. Hmmmm....wonder if I could get lucky again?

aeGT5000,

Wow...LOL. BTW, the $45 also included 2 front wheel weights (25# each, I think) as well as the delivery charge.

RG,

The dealership just needed the space. Spring is coming and they were swamped with repair/maintance equipment. They also have a bunch of junk SX38s and they just want to get the "scrap" out of their yard. I believe they mistakenly thought the 170 needed a bunch of repairs It had been there for about 1.5 years and just got lost in the system.

I didn't get as good a deal as Greg, but the first year we took our restored '44 Farmall A to the local tractor show, a guy came along and was talking tractors. He said he had one just like ours in his back yard, would we like to but it for parts. Said it had no front axle, and no tires any good, wanted $90. We say yes, trying not to jump up and down fer joy!!! Made an appointment to go pick it up on following Wednesday. He calls on Monday or Tuesday that some other stuff was missing too, but if we still wanted it, we could have it for $60, we said be there on Wednesday! ( Trying not to laugh with glee into the phone!:D )

We got there and saw a 39 Farmall A (first year of production!) missing the front axle and front casting (axle pivot). We'd brought some wrenches, so passed him $60 and in an hour (with HIS help!) had it dis-assembled and in the back of our pickup.

Got a couple of tires with it, and sold one for $75.:lmao: Any way, got the durn thing running even. We gathered the missing pieces, and it now sits in a shed waiting to be restored.;)

Well tractor wise I would have to say my 444. Went to look at it, and the guy wanted $1200 for the tractor, mower deck, and tiller. Looked REAL nice, so talked to the wife, and offerd $1000 for it. He goes "Well, you seem nice, and I just lowerd the price to $850 in the paper yesterday, so you can have it for that" :D :D DEAL!!!

lol it does look like it. I want to make a 1/2 scale model to go with it to take to shows, after seeing that other one that guy did lol. That would be soooo cool to have both at a show.
