I am looking for any tips on repairing or replacing a bent muffler on a 1978 Ford 1600 compact tractor. I have researched some options: 1) a replacement from Ford-New Holland runs upwards $400. 2) an aftermarket replacement from an internet site is much cheaper, $100, and 3) determine if it can be bent back and sealed (see image). I cannot find any detail on the muffler in the shop or owner's manual. Seems simple, but would like to get some advice from anyone who has had to deal with something similar. The muffler pictured is not OEM, but I like it because I could fit a rain cap on top. The OEM and aftermarket mufflers mentioned as options have a much narrower, rectangle shape exhaust outlet. --Thanks

Howdy BW Moore,
You should be able to straighten that bent muffler. Probably best to apply heat to soften the metal for straightening.

Thank you, sixbales! I will be giving that a try before doing anything else.
