Hi
Here is what happens when you get in a hurry. Long story and picture attached.
We left Florida for the 1,500 mile ride home Fri. Got just north of the Florida
border 500 miles from the Keys. The cover on the boat is held up by a pole and it kept slipping on the carpet and letting the cover flop around. It had a rubber cap
on the bottom of the pole so I decided to take the rubber off thinking that the bare metal would not slip. I stopped at a rest area and opened a corner of the cover so I could crawl under it. It was hot and even hotter under the cover. I got out my knife and was cutting the rubber cap off when my knife slipped and I stabbed myself 5 inches below my knee right to the bone. I was bleeding so bad that I had to hold it
and could not get out of the boat. I yelled for Sue to get some paper towels so I could stop the bleeding enough to climb out of the boat. It is a hard to get in and out of the boat anyway. I got to the van and taped it up with duct tape around paper
towel.
We found a hospital but with the trailer there was no place to park as it was a huge complex. Plus we could not leave Sonny. Sue went it and the waiting room was packed. I decided that since I got the bleeding under control that Neosporin and my
duct tape holding it shut that I would be good to go besides I wanted to make 800 miles on Friday. So I said lets hit the road. We went a few miles farther and stopped at a rest area. I walked to the john and then to a vending machine to buy a Coffee. After I put my money in I felt something running down my leg ( I was wearing shorts). It was blood running like a faucet. I limped back to the bathroom and got a wad of toilet paper. As I looked at it I had a huge lump next to the stab
wound.
We were in South Georgia. We got a room and unhooked the trailer and left it there and went to a hospital. Sue waited in the van with Sonny and I went in. The whole staff thought it was real funny that I used duct tape to hold it together. They
said I might have hit an artery. They gave me a tetanus shot and a prescription for anti biotics as the knife was rusty and dirty. They put in two metal staples to hold it together and said to have a Doctor remove them in 7 to 10 days. They did not even offer to freeze it before the staples but after waiting two hours besides it hurting so bad by then I did not care. We got back to our room to find out that some Bozo had parked in front of the trailer so I had to pull it out by hand to hook up and that is one heavy boat and trailer.
We spent the night and hit the road Saturday at 5AM getting home at 10 PM
that night. That was just under 1,000 miles on Saturday total 1,500 mile trip.
