How do I test compression when I have ACR on a 17 hp Kawasaki? Pressure is about 25 psi and I'm about ready to take it apart again. I just put new rings in it. Valve clearance checks out. It hasn't run yet so the valves aren't set yet. Any ideas? Lloyd

Welcome burlap:friends: to tractorforum. Let me say if your motor has ARC you cant do a compression test because it opens the valve just a little to allow easy starting so you will lose compression. You will have to do a Leak down test to find out if its leaking past the rings or the valves. Here is a link that will explain how its done and what it does. Now this shows it on a car motor but it should be the same or close to it for a small motor.

Ya I played that game with a Kohler. Had bad compression, so I pulled it apart to fix. THEN I heard about the ACR:eek: Turns out I had a bigtime burnt head gasket anyways so I made out good.
