A friend left my shop this evening and got a shot of some of my pets in the field between me and my neighbor. He couldn't get them all in the pic but we counted a total of 34. Eleven were bucks but only two had much of a rack, and not much at that. I see them about every day and they're still fun to watch.....

sure would like to hunt in NM

I sure would like to give hunting a try in New Mexico instead of Colorado! That's more muleys in that one photo than I saw in my entire hunting trip to Colorado a few weeks ago. But I did take a small muley "3X3" this year. Even though it was the smallest muley I have ever taken, I was still thrilled. I would really love to hunt elk in NM. I have been told that if I ever want one bigger than the one I got a few years ago, I would have to hunt NM or maybe Arizona instead of public land in Colorado. I am sure you see elk this size all the time but I added a pic of him anyway. He is a 6X6 with a 43 1/2 spread.

I used to be an avid hunter most of my life. Now all I do is watch the game. I have a lot of deer and turkey on my place and its not unusual to have to wait for the darn deer to get out of your front yard or out of the driveway at night, just so you can get in the yard. They know they are safe and not in danger of getting shot for the most part and have become pretty darn accepting of me and the wife. The turkeys still keep a pretty decent distance from humans though. I have seensome nice 10 pointers over the last couple of years in my yard. I have friends chomping at the bit to hunt here, but I don't allow it. We are allowed a deer a day, and in my county buck or does are legal all season long...no permits required for a doe. Other counties have limitatiins on does, but Alabama has the deer a day law. There were times I would just get tired of shooting them. I would start off in October using the bow, or black powder rifle, then switch to high powered rifle or handgun when the acutal firearms season came in in November, and hunt until the season ended in Jan 31. We do have a heap of deer i Alabama. Not a lot of what I would say overly large deer but there are some nice monsters out there.

Jay, that's a nice elk. We got them around here too but I haven't seen any of them in the yard so far this year. They are HUGE. I once saw one on his hind legs eating apples in the top of a tree. I've got a pic of one standing west of the house but it's poor quality. A friend has a meat processing plant and has butchered several deer and elk this year. He got one a couple weeks ago that field dressed at 495 lbs. I don't know how big they get but that one was pretty good sized. He traded meat for some of his pay and sent a couple steaks home. I'm gunna try them tomorrow night for supper.

The deer around here aren't all that big. Local hunters call them Mexican deer and not mullies. Seldom I see any with big racks cause the poachers keep them killed off. I don't hunt deer although I don't have any problems with it. I DO hunt poachers. Funny how they hate video cameras........
