i need help finding points for my 1973 simplicity 3416H. i have searched high and low for them and cant find them anywhere or even a part number. every diagram i find doesn't even list a pert number for them all i need is the points. if someone could give me a part number or even as far as where to pick some up that would be great thanks.

Bob Driver should be along any minute, He's a wizard at this stuff, but in the mean time, does you unit actually breaker points(298185)? Or does it have the Magnatron (394970) ignition?

it is breaker points
Check out the part number I gave you and see if anything looks familiar
Bill's right on the money... 298185 are the common points that Briggs used in the 8 to 16HP L-heads. Plug that # into the search box at Amazon and they start at around $12.

Unless you're hard core anal retentive, most guys just convert them over to an electronic ignition with coil #398811 for around $15.

Here's a link to my favorite You Tube guy that shows you how to do it. If you've never watched Taryl before, ignore the skit at the beginning. It's his shtick that has made him famous on You Tube, he's a master small engine mechanic. I have a framed picture of him and Karl Childers hanging on the wall in my "Lawn Mower Hall of Fame" at the shop. I want to be just like them when I grow up. THERE'S YOUR DINNER....:)
