1963 Oliver 1800 remote hydraulic issues

I got a 1800 Oliver I’m restoring and i blew a hose on the right hand couplers. It is dialed in for directional, has been used in the past (last year) round bailing. Blew a hose before winter and I have output flow but it will not pull back fluid. Only functioning one way. Called all the Oliver guys around here in wisconsin and nobody has answers. Hydraulic pump is working, checked fluids, everything is working except it only flows one direction on the right side. Haven’t pulled it apart yet cause I’m in the middle of paint and getting a better carb on it. When you pull the lever forward or back, if you pull it fully back it does that clicking noise like it’s maxed out. I don’t know if that’s some sort of relief valve but I try not to do that.

Hello Jimmybeam, welcome to the forum.

This may be due to a malfunctioning quick connector, blocking flow. Bleed the pressure off of both sides first. Check it out.

I once had the innards of a female QC unscrew internally, which blocked flow.

It could be inside the valve, but it is more likely the quick coupler.
You could take a short hose with a male on both ends and plug it in and try your handle in both directions.

Boy oh boy. I’ve never ever heard of such a thing! I did switch it over to those red and yellow fancy couplers. I’ll have to fire it up and see if the hose jumps. Let’s say my luck continues to be south per usual… can you tell me a little bit about what to look for when I remove that top plate
Or the valve body? Is there a spring valve or one of those ball valve deals?

I’ll make a male ended one and make a loop. Maybe that will jar something loose.

Thanks big T for the welcome. I’m gonna check these things. For all the years farming I never had issues with a coupler! But I know I took off the ones that were on there when I started having these issues. I’ll have to test the new red and yellow ones I put on
Have you got a picture of the fancy ones, cause mine have valves to stop the flow.

This type will not flow with valves not rotated.

Those are the ones that I got
They are nice some times, they can be a real bear to get the hoses seated sometimes and then the handles have to be rotated to the correct position.
They seem to take a two handed shove to get fully seated most times even when fully depressured.

Ya they are nice, when they work correctly like you said, I have to wrap my hand tight around the hose then use my other fist like a hammer to lock it in and turn the valve. I’m hoping this will be a simple fix. I rewired the entire tractor and dash, new lights, LEDS red led flashers/floods built in, new rubber, painted up nice and just got rid of that damn marvel schiebler usx32 carb with a zenith.

Doing lots of work to the ol girl, she's looking good.
An 1800 gasser, she must get pretty thirsty when worked hard.

She drinks her up! But I was surprised. Not as bad as I thought. I been looking for a Perkins to throw in it. This thing has been such a pain in the ass with the carb and running correctly.
