In Freeman South Dakota at a farm sale for a retiring couple, a 1917 Russell Tractor sold for $262,500.00. I understand that it has been in the family since it was new and was purchased by someone in North Carolina. The tractor looked rusty of course but still runs.

I wonder what it cost new... Maybe $80
As they say in the sales business (auto) theres an ass for every seat....
Was it all original? Tires wheels etc, Still must be something special to the buyer to pay that kind of money for an antique tractor... maybe an old steamer... could bring that kind of money.

Great article. Thanks for sharing it...

Those are big tractors and probably cost more then $80. The book I have shows a model called the American made by Russell, weighs in at 17,150 lbs. and sold for $2,400 in 1914. Tires  not likely, more like steel wheels. Any idea what model it was? One of the smaller models weighed in at 5,500 lbs.
Not all that common a tractor which is probably why it brought that kind of money. But then again, perhaps one of the relatives wanted it too, and this guy wanted more :D
