  • Posted in thread: How did you pick your tractor? on 05/22/2012 at 9:56PM
Keep in mind that this all happened many years before the internet. My first one was a Deere 316. Bought
it new after spending most of the winter of '77-78 reading catalogs and visiting dealers. Now I...

  • Posted in thread: GT 5000 - Towing Capacity on 05/20/2012 at 11:49AM
The rough rule of thumb is to not tow any rolling load that weighs more than the tractor. As mentioned
above, stopping a heavy load can be a safety issue as is being pushed downhill by a heavy load.

  • Posted in thread: Whats my LX176 worth? on 05/15/2012 at 6:25PM
It's 14 years old, so I'd say in my neck of the woods, it would fetch $600-800. If you had the bagger and
it was in as good a condition as your tractor, I'd say $1000.

new, the 2 tractors you mentioned would work for a while, maybe 4 to 6 years or so. Keep in mind ...

your local "any-brand" dealers for Deere trade ins.

  • Posted in thread: What happened to Oliver? on 05/14/2012 at 10:32AM
2 above sites should give you a pretty good overall history of the Oliver Farm Equipment Co. It mirrors
the history of a lot of early industrial manufacturers in that several small companies that ma...

Always happy to have another fellow Pennsylvanian around.

  • Posted in thread: Synthetic 'pot'. on 05/02/2012 at 1:09PM
My uncle had a couple of Simcas, and yeah, 4 or 5 guys could carry the car, they were small and really
light. Had a little tiny engine in them that might have weighed 200 pounds. They wouldn't go very...

  • Posted in thread: where o where... on 05/01/2012 at 4:01PM
Depends on how old, and what model you are looking at as to where they are built. Back in the 1970's some
of the larger Deere compact utility tractors were built by Deere in Germany. Yanmar in Japan w...
