welded spider gears WC

i have recently restored my great uncle's 1946 wc and take it to tractor pulls every month. the front on it is light even with the weights on it so i have to drive it with the hand brakes and thats very difficult. next week i am going to saw a square hole out of the rear end cover and weld up the spider gears in it. hopefully this will eliminate the brake problem.(photo is in 3500 pound class... thats why it has no weights up front)

here are some specs on the tractor:
-Gleaner combine engine (same as D17 gas)
-4 pad clutch
-800 ford rear RIMS bolted to factory hubs
-Adjustable wheelie bars
-Zenith Carb. biggest one i could fit on intake...
-Removed Air cleaner, strait piped pre cleaner
-electronic ignition conversion
-chevrolet blazer gas pedal cabled straight to carb(bypasses governor)
-removed pto
-electric fuel pump

Photobucket

according to the tach recall, it turns about 4700 rpm while pulling full blast

I am not sure how long or well welding the spider gears will hold. Usually for applications such as this a spool works best.

That will be something you will probably have to sub out to a good machine shop.

Just gotta start paying more attention to when some of these threads were first started.

At least a couple other posters were sharp enough to see the problem.

Wanting to weld up some greasy gears while in place lock the rear axle up then wanting steer with the brakes. See Grease Monster hasn't been back since these posts. Must have been too embarrassed or got himself hurt.
