Pics of our new Allis

Thought I'd post a few pics of my first tractor. Tell me what ya'll think, and offer any suggestion you might have. Anybody know how to fix the shifter?

We've only had it for a week and with the screwy shifter haven't been able to play much with it but I really like this old tractor

Looks hell for stout and I love the captains chair! Awesome speedfreak, thanks for sharing. Pop that cover off and see if you can slide the linkage out of reverse.

Oh I've done that already but it only takes a couple of shifts until its stuck again. Fires and runs on the first try though.

Judging from the look of the rubber boot around the shifter, make sure you check to see how much water is in the gear case as an amazing amount of rainwater will get in through there. I've been putting a CV axle joint repair boot [such as for almost any front CV drive axle on a mid 80's on up GM car] on the shift levers of all the tractors I have to keep the water out. The boot is hose clamped to the shift lever and extends over the shift tower like a sort of heavy duty umbrella. [not actually fastened to the tower]. If the oil is milky or has water at the drain plug then drain it all out and install new. Milky oil is hard on bearings and gears. The end of the shift levers would wear down over the years and then it would be able to slip out of the shift rails and leave you stuck in a gear so take a look at that as that may be why it gets stuck in reverse. I've added weld to the end of several shift levers of many makes to lengthen them just a bit so they stay put. If it runs good and doesn't pop out of gear when under load then that's pretty good. These things look pretty nice when they're all fixed up but I've got some pretty rusty ones too that are too busy being used daily to apply makeup too. Good luck with you Allis!

Drain and change all the fluids including the radiator first thing. Probable wouldn't hurt to drain the gas tank and change the fuel filter as well.

Good call Larry. Not a bad idea to change all the fluids right away so you know they are all good, full, and clean. Take a good look inside the fuel tank and make sure it hasn't developed a furry rust coat inside. Clean that air filter thoroughly also as they get pretty nasty and are often overlooked for years at a time.
