perkins head removal question

Well ill give you a little background on the engine..it came out of a tractor and was transplanted into a taylor sea eagle marine forklift. I know that the perkins is a 1988 inline 6cylinder. My boss has tasked me with pulling the head off of it because it started shooting water from between the head and block in the back left corner of the head. I've removed heads on v8 gas powered motors but never an inline diesel and since my boss is too cheap to purchase the manual on the engine I come to the online forums for guidance. I've removed most of the external parts that look like needs to be removed, but my question is concerning the water pump. Its on the top front of the motor, and looks as though it bolts to the head AND block. Does it just unbolt and come right off, or is there. A keyed slot itslides into?. Do I even need to take it off to get the head off? And last but not least.....is there anything I need to be looking out for when I unbolt the head and pull it off. Like any known issues I should be looking for on these motors?

The ting to do first is take the casting numbers off the Block to a Massey Ferguson Dealer - see if they will assist you by sending them to their Service Tech's to identify if it was a Massey Tractor - example - the MF3545 had an online six - you are not going to have to worry about taking it apart if you haven't determined where to get parts... if they can identify the block and then they can identify the model tractor to get the parts from and maybe even let you see or copy the service manual... You can go to this site and click on the "Guest Button" and you will have to install an active x viewer first... use Internet Explorer no other browser and view parts breakdowns by model...
