New here and have ?'s

Hello I just joined the forum because I'm the proud new owner of an Allis Chalmers tractor. I'd like to tell you the model and year but it seems I've been misinformed, I was told that I was buying a 1962 wd-45 but it seems that the wd-45 wasn't made in 1962. I've seen several pictures and it looks like the wd-45's did in the 50's so my first question is; how do I find out exactly what I have? I haven't found many numbers on the tractors frame that I could use in a search. I'm having trouble with the shifter but I need to know which tractor I have before I can ask how to fix it. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me get started here, I'm looking forward to getting the old workhorse back on its feet and looking decent again.

Tractor ID

Standing behind the tractor, look to the left of the differental cover, just above the brake adjusting bolt. This is above the bar that connects the lift arms. If it is a WD45, that is where the serial # is. A early WD has a straight shift lever, a late WD has a curved shift lever like the WD45. WDs have a steel plate on the right side of the engine. WD could have a mag, WD45 came with a distributor.

Thanks you! It must be a wd45 then, it's got a curved shift lever and a distributor. I still haven't found the serial numbers yet though. Thanks for the help!

The last year for the WD had a curved shifter and the taller head.
Look for the # and that will be easy or post a pic

Finally found the number! She's a '53 WD45, it was hiding under a few layers of paint I had to take a wire wheeled grinder to the place to uncover the numbers. Thanks for the help pointing the right spot out guys.
