After 9/11 I'm suprised these pics are still around. It's now illegal to photograph any bridges in NYC. Seems power plants should be too.

Allis Chalmers also made a lot of LARGE valves for for things like the service water system in one of the nuclear plants I worked in. Not fun trying to find "Q-List" parts for them!

I had me an Allis Chalmer tractor a long time ago. It was called a Allis Chalmer "Bantam" It was about the size of a large model Wheel horse, large single cylinder Wisconsin engine in it. Transmission went over the hill no parts available, so I hooked up a 3 speed floor shift type jeep tranny to it and used it for a few more seasons.

Allis
After making the above post I decided to see if I could find anything out about that old Bantam so I did a pretty extensive search on the web. I spent a great deal of time on yesterdays trqctors site, and every reference with the word Bantam in it was not even close to the small tractor I had, and all the A-C tractors I looked at were not even close either. So maybe all these years I thought I had a A-C Bantam it may not have been. It was a orange ish color (don't know if it was original paint or not, but assumed it was) and I can swear it had the name Allis Chalamers on it. The orange paint was about the color of the old orange color Case used to use IIRC.

Its got me thinking now was it really an A-C or not.

Original configuration was with a Wisconsin cast iron single cylinder engine, all really heavy gauge shet metal, original tranny was a 4 FWD 1R with a conventional clutch and pressure plate more or less, not connected by a belt, and the rear final drive was a large cast iron casting. Tall but somewhat narrow wheels / tires, and the typical stamped steel pana type ag seat.

The tranny went out like I stated, and I used a Willys jeep 3 speed tranny in its place.....(IIRC it was a 3 speed but it came out of an old military WWII flat head engined jeep. I really should remember more but that was over 40 some years ago when I had this thing, and back then I was just happy to have something to use around the place to push snow and cut grass etc. It did have a dual tire setup for it. Resembled the old Wheel Horse or original Cub Cadets as to style and size.

Nope not anywhere close. That Bantam is a pretty cute little tractor though! MIne also had a wide front axle not a tricycle setup.
