l need some help with a starter / generator

l hooked it up to the butten but it didn't turn over the motor but when you loosened the belt to when it slipes it would go but slowly my Qus is there is a black box does it need to be hooked up in order to run the starter ???? it's off a allis 110B if that helps

Is your battery fully charged ? Sounds like the black box is your regulator?

thats the word thanks l used jumper cables form my runing tractor to the starter but still won't turn over

Double check your connections and if that don't do it you may have to tear it apart and check it out or take it to a shop.

Check your battery, frame, and starter/gen connections for a good CLEAN and solid connection. Are you sure the engine is turning over freely? Cound the engine be dragging the starter/gen to a halt?
