Help please --- battery not charging

I have a Allis D17 and the battery is apparently not receiving charge from the generator. Can someone tell me how to determine what is wrong? Just for information purposes, the battery is new, last Saturday I charged the battery for an hour, started tractor ran it for 20 minutes, shut it off for 15 minutes to load wood, started tractor for 5 minutes, shut it off for 20 minutes to load more wood, started tractor but it just barely turned over enough to start. I left it idling until I was done hauling wood (approx. 1 1/2 hours). Parked tractor and shut it off, tried to start it again and would not turn over enough to start. Anyone with time to give me advice will be appreciated.

Check the discharge directly off the generator and chase the problem until you find the dirty rattin problem. Good luck

I really don't know anything about your tractor but I have a wd-45 that is still 6v and had the same problem. Here is what I did. I ran new wires from the generator. Bought new battery cables(mine were for 12v and 6v takes a much heavier cable) My light switch is part of my charging system and a mouse had a nest in there and rusted my switch-replaced the switch. I have no more charging problems! Single digit temps starts right up. Hope this helps. Oh you have to polarize the generator. Mike
