whats your thoughts

hello everyone, as you see im very new to your site and would like to pick your brains for a bit. i am a tractor virgin, just starting to learn as i go and doing reserch before i go. i just bought a 40 acre farm that has had no land managment for the past 10 years and im very new to farming and working land. besides setting up a few deer food plots in the past this is all still new to me.

and here is the question i have a lead on a oliver 1750 gas tractor with front loader at a very resonable price that fits my range (or at least what the wife says i can spend before i have to buy her some kinda new car).

i would like to know what your alls opinion of this tractor is, what problems you might know of that are common or what things i should look for before i buy so that i can make a informed decison.

any imput would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time... nate

ps. sorry for the spelling of a few words, god bless a good o'l southern education, lol no child left behind my ass..

The oliver 1750 is one fine tractor. My dads friend had one and farmed with it for years. Back then gasoline was less than one dollar a gallon and that large of a tractor will use quite a few of them. Maybe try to find something with a diesel engine. I had a 80hp tractor that could use four to four and a half gallons of gas an hour. That could be expensive at four dollars a gallon. When I traded it in for one about the same size with a diesel engine that even had a turbo my fuel expenses where cut in half. Good luck

thank you for the respone ive done some checking and tractor data says 7g/ph when running the pto or drawbar. thats why ive been hinking of converting it to LP after i buy it( if i still do, that is)so far everyone ive talked with have said the say thing about the gas 1750, currently i have a 1949 TO-20 its pperfect conditions and is an all around great little tractor, but thats the problem its little and very light weight tipping in around 22-2400 lbs with no live anything. and i dont want to destroy it trying to do with it what only a big tractor should be doing.....nate

Gasoline tractors are ok but they will have to have maintance alot.

Get a diesel. You won't regret.

Get you a big mower, harrows, land level, frontend loader, bulldozer, excavator (rent if you want since you might have to dig you canals).
