Which Water Pump to Choose

My 1979 Ford 4600 water pump has blown its seal. Various internet vendors offer a new pump for $53. The local Ford/New Holland dealer wants $114.

What's the difference?

Is it worth rebuilding?

I last replaced the pump in 1994, about 400 hours ago. So the tractor does a lot of sitting.

Is the TISCO brand Chinese?

Not sure. I hate much of the Chinese stuff, but some of it is actually better than Us made stuff. I would ask the company where it's made. Me? I'd likely stick with the one from the dealer, because they would be easier to deal with in the event of failure. Ever deal with shipping something back, dealing on the phone with automated systems or getting people who cannot speak English? I'd be tempted to support your local dealer. But I understand the price considerations too!

Just looked at the Tisco site. Sure looks legitimate. I would say the stuff they push is likely American made. I'd probably go with them if it were me. How much is the shipping?

Shipping costs $9.99 per order.

Ford Tractor water pump

(I wonder if that shipping cost is good for something heavy like a new crankshaft?)

I ordered the water pump on Monday. It was shipped by UPS. I expected shipping to take five days from Texas to Oregon. The water pump was delivered the following day, Tuesday, from Prosser, Washington.

The pump appears substantial and well built, It is well machined. The castings are a bit rougher than the one it replaces.

The pump was made in Turkey.

Overall, it sounds as though you are pleased with your choice of supplier?

Yes, the supplier is fine.

I'll tell you in ten years about the quality of seal and bearings.
