Newbie Needs Info

Greetings
I borrowed my neighbors Ford tractor.. It ran fine for two days .. No problems at all.. Started up and ran fine grading the road with the gannon.. Then tried to start it on 3rd day.. It did and ran for a few minutes then died and wont start.. It almost starts on the first try... I took the numbers I found and need to know the year and modell.
I am pretty sure it is an 8N.. Here are the numbers by the starter 8N-C
Here are the numbers by the Clutch linkage..
8N or maybe it is an H Hard to tell

012
Can the year and model be determined by this.. Want to get a manual..
It has a 6 volt system .. So need some ideas to locate the problem..
Ignition or Fuel.. I think it is the latter.. Float stuck???

There are a few issues also ... One: the voltage regulator was replaced recently .. Now the ammeter is registering a -10v while running for the two days..
If my memory serves me right dont these old tractors when replacing the regulator and generator dont they need to have there field polarity flashed or something like that...
So info would be appreciated..
FYI The distributor is up by the radiator and fan..

8N Info

The best way to figure out the year and model is to look a the engine serial number. John Smith did a great job of presenting how at

Change history '39-'64 Ford Tractors

The number 8N-C tells me that it is probably and 1952 8N (last year for the 8N). It should have a side mount 5 nipple distributor. Early 8N's had a front mount distributor with 4 nipples. TSC has the manual - usually in stock. It covers 9N-2N-8N tractors.

Your starting problems sounds like a plugged screen or two in the fuel line. To check for this turn off the valve at the tank. Remove the plug on the bottom of the carburetor and let the gas drain out. Now carefully open the valve, do you get a steady stream or just a trickle. If its just a trickle, you have a blocked screen or struck float valve.

There are 3 screens on the fuel line. One above the valve in the tank, one above the glass bowl. and one at the carb inlet. I would start at the carb inlet, remove the fuel line and carefully back out the brass fitting. The screen is attached. Just clean it out or replace it. (TSC usually has them).

That's at place to start anyway. Your starting problem could be electrical, but make sure you have fuel in carb first.

Hope this helps
