Mahindra USA Tractors – History and information about the Company
From vehicles to farm tractors to major automobile manufacturing, Mahindra’s relationship with American industry goes back quite a few years. American GIs who served in India during World War II recognize our parent company, Mahindra & Mahindra, which in 1945 was selected to assemble the famous Willys Jeep.
Following Indian independence in 1947, the founders of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) were determined to chart a course of product expansion and globalization. The philosophy led to the company’s eventual entrance into the worldwide tractor market.
In 1963, M&M formed a joint venture with International Harvester to manufacture tractors carrying the Mahindra nameplate for the Indian market. Armed with engineering, tooling and manufacturing know-how gained from this relationship, M&M developed its first tractor, the B-275. This successor to International Harvester’s incredibly popular IH B-414 is still the basis for some current Mahindra models.
More recently, a joint venture between M&M and Ford Motor Company in 1995 created new opportunities for growth in the world vehicle market. A short time later, the European model of the Ford Escort began rolling off the Mahindra assembly lines. M&M's newest product, one that has burst onto the Indian market, is the Scorpio, a rugged, yet stylish new SUV that received numerous awards as the best new vehicle in India in 2002.
Today M&M ranks among the largest tractor companies in the world with sales of nearly 85,000 units annually in 10 countries. In India, the largest tractor market in the world, Mahindra has been the number one selling brand since 1983.
In 1994, the company entered the American market as Mahindra USA, and in the few years since, its tough, dependable tractors are being sold and serviced by hundreds of leading tractor dealers throughout the country. Here in the United States, we perform final assembly and conduct a 51 point pre-delivery inspection, including dynamometer and road testing to ensure high standards of quality. Our focus is to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction and dealer support.
In 2003, Mahindra USA opened a second assembly and distribution center in Calhoun, GA, 68 miles north of Atlanta. This will more than double production capacity to meet growing demands for our tractors.

Well, since the warranty is up - id say it opens the door to make it a better tractor. Id reinforce the bucket with extra steel. Id remove the rusting brake pedal and either put berings in there or find a way to drill the bushings for zerks- id go thru and replace all the oddball zerks with new ones.
Next time a hydraulic line goes- invest in a set of higher quality lines- im sure any tractor place can make a new set for you .

I have the Mahindra Model 450, which is about 20 years old. Closing in on 1,000 hours. Beautiful machine and outworks any Ford or John Deer of equivalent engine size. I love that thing, and it starts beautifully in super cold weather, where my neighbors have to use Either to get them to start. No problems at all, and I fully expect to get at least another 1,000 hours before any work needs to be done, besides regular maintenance. It will easily pull a 3 plow turning disk, which is designed for at least a 90 HP Ford.

It's great to see that competition is around in the form of great products at more reasonable prices than the more established recognized names.

I probably should have gone one size bigger and gotten the 2516 but I really dont need it. The "bumper to bumper" warranty is 2 years and the drivetrain is 5 years. Can't sneeze at that. The small Mahindras are made by Mitsubishi in Japan and the loaders are made by KMW which makes loaders for all the brand tractors. Go with the Mahindra, you will love it. "

"Mahindra 6000.....
Right at 300 hrs on mind, had it 3 years now and just put a ML-265 FEL on it about 5 weeks ago, only problem i had was stabbing a root up into the hydraulic filter, seen it after it happen, backed up and shut it down, went ahead and changed the oil and filter and cleaned the suction strainer and magnetic plug. Other than that its been a good working tractor.
Oh had it stuck 3 times so far, I think it had something to do with the loose nut behind the wheel."
"Hello Everyone,
I purchased my first Mahindra new in 1999. It was a 4505DI 2WD. I kept that tractor for eight years and the only problem I had was a cracked fuel line. A $14.00 part. I was so impressed with the quality and reliability, I traded it in on a new Mahindra 4530 4WD. It's a 42hp machine that is built in India. It's a heavy beast weighing in at 7400 lbs. with the FEL. I've had this new tractor for almost five months and I'm completely satisfied with it. No plastic fenders and it kind of pushes the woods around instead of the woods pushing it around "

I have used mine hard, got it stuck bad twice, abused it some, and it just keeps on going! Heavy duty, great tractor, good price! Sundug

Sounds like the dealer that put it together may have been in a hurry or something, and overlooked a few things they shouldnt.

I'm sorry a lot of you guys have had trouble with your Mahindras. Personally, I have the 450, which is built like a battleship. It had 800 hours on it when I bought it, and I knew the clutch was going to give problems, so replacing the clutch at 1000 hours was expected.
Bills Tractor in Texas is absolutely wonderful with service in the parts department, and even with the tractor being close to 20 years old, they had every part I needed. Prices were reasonable. this is the first major work I've had to do to it in repairs. I had the tractor taken apart in right at 1 hour and replaced everything with the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. it took a total of about 3 hours from the w=first wrench to the last bolt.
engineering on that tractor is wonderful and very easy to work on. In my opinion, the 450 is far superior to any ford or especially John Deer or Massey Furgeson. It never failed to start, even with this cold winter with temperatures hovering around zero. And, No, I don't have any engine heaters or anything to make it easier to start. There's no need to.
Maybe the newer ones aren't as good, but it would take one heck of a tractor to out preform this particular model. It easily pulls a 3 pointed turning plow like it's nothing, and the 3 point plow was designed for a 90 horse and above. Mine is just a 45 horse, but it outworks units twice it's rated power.

I have an 1815 HST bought new in 2007.
The only problem was bracket holding the battery in place came loose, a minor issue
So really no problems, it has been a great little tractor.
I looked at all the other similar sized tractors made by JD, New Holland, Kubota, grey market tractors etc...
The Mahindra seemed to built stronger than any of the others and at a better price.
I just installed the power beyond kit with a remote valve and the installation was pretty straight forward except for one thing. The instructions on where to place the o-ring for the conversion plug on the loader valve was not totally clear so called a dealer to clarify where this o-ring should go.
I am going to run a log splitter of this valve, having one built at a local welding shop right now.
I have some other attachements in mind for the later on.

No more Mahindra for me
I have a 2015 with about 50 hours and the differential lock went out. I took it to the dealer under warranty, Alachua Tractor&Eqpt.Co and they charged me $45 to adjust "the linkage." The problem is there is no linkage! The differential lock still does not work. There are other problems like the 3 point control is very stiff but take it to the dealer? Never again and never again another Mahindra.

Reading the many posts both pro and con, makes me realize that Mahindra is no different than other brands. They all have problems. My neighbor bought a brand-new Case and one day the lift would not work. He couldn't figure it out. Still under warranty brought it to the dealer -dealer was puzzled for over a week-they finally figured out they had to reboot the computer to get the lift to work! I'll take a simpler tractor like to Mahindra 6500 that I have where you move a lever to open a valve to make the lift go up-no computer needed. I really like my Mahindra!

I have 2015 that under warranty the differential lock went out in reverse. I took it to the Alachua Tractor dealer as the local (Jacksonville fl) dealer had closed and they charged me to "adjust the linkage" problem is; there is no linkage and the lock still doesn't work. The pedal is connected directly to the shaft coming out of the rear end. Since it was a lot of trouble to take it back (and I no longer trusted them) the lock is still broken. I like the tractor, but without a reliable service center I wouldn't buy another one. I was looking at buying the 85hp Mahindra and instead decided to go with a Deer. Dealer support is worth the extra cost.

Mahindra 2516HS 4x4
Purchased a Mahindra 2516 with loader and backhoe, got 80 hrs and after reading the bad reports I'm a little worried. However I take good care of my things and this little tractor works great.I hope you all have better luck soon.My only downfall is the price of the filters, they are a little pricey and I am working with my old school Autoparts dealer to get them, oil filter was half the price and top of the line.

Don't worry-just do the maintainence, they are good tractors. These folks have a good selection of filters at reasonable prices-

I have owned 3 Mahindras since 1999. 2WD 5000 4WD, 5500 and 2003 4WD 6500.
Never a problem with any one of them. Traded up for a little more power. Battery replacement only issue I have ever had. Definitely a real test of one's dexterity to replace the battery. Paint could be better, but mine stays outside and works most of the year.

Yes, I purchased a brand new 8000 in sep 2011. I was advised of the following.
Parts are always available as their head office is in Brisbane, about 3 hrs away. Well, how untrue was that. Engine failed, my fault, but took some 6 weeks just to get parts from India. I can't believe they didn't have one crank in Australia. Small issues, shuttle shift lever has failed in two places so far. Front end loader joy stick comes loose. One of the main rams on the end loader broke a weld. Oil sensor lead always loose. Unusual and hard to find couplings for hydraulics, does not help when dealer staff either don't know the size, or don't care.
I will never deal with this dealer again, nor will I buy another mahindra.
