For those of you with Cummins pickups, you know the lift pump is a weak point. The lift pump can fail and cause damage to the fuel injector pump. NOT a cheap fix when this happens.
Cummins recently came out with a new fuel lift pump kit that includes a modified lift pump with fuel passages designed into the pump so that the injector pump can still draw fuel even if the lift pump fails totally. The lift pump kit sells for about $65 and includes the pump, fittings, pig tail and some other items. The old style OEM lift pump sells for around $150. OUCH!
The part # for this new lift pump kit is 4090046. I ordered 2 for me and 2 for a friend today and the price was $67.15 each plus shipping from Cummins SouthEast Power 1-800-733-6101.
I plan to install this pump in my truck at the same time we install the Vulcan "Big Line" Pump Relocation Kit.
My OEM lift pump is still good but the pressure and volume output is gradually dropping each time I check it at oil changes. New is put out 15 psi at idle and would pull down to around 8 psi under a full pull WOT in 5th gear. Now it is down to 12 psi at idle and pulls down to about 4 psi full pull in 5th gear. That was with a brand new fuel filter to boot!

The pump is getting tired and it won't be long before I need to change it. I may add some guages and a fuel pressure gauge as well later.
Anyhow, just wanted to pass along some good info. for those who were not aware.
