its been a lot of fun and a learning Exp...I did it just to see if i could ..I have always been into racing had 12 and 11 sec street cars but never built one for the track ..i got the car body cheap floors had soft spots and the motor was bagged so ..I got the CC out and and had everything shipped in ...Took the chop saw to the floors trunk and fire wall...Then started to build...when done it should be a blast not sure what motor i am going to use i have 2 choices a 383 stroker or a 406 ...As for the thrift store (princess auto ) same as harbor freight i bought all my 2 ott wire there for the battery and my hold downs and all the hard ware have to save on some things lol every time i go in there i come out with 150 worth of stuff you never know what your going to find in there lol....cant wait to get it done ....Thanks for the reply

My dad's freind has built a few hot rods - he took a chopped up ( ready to be a drag racer) 69 camaro and rebuilt it back to stock specs- even has the original inflatable spare tire kit. He also has a 80's el camino that was bieng changed into a drag machine , at the time he bot a cheep 86 monte carlo and swapped motors, set it up for dragging as well ( till he finished the el camino) - he did impressive work.

Since the late 90's ive been buying cheep lawntractors, rebuilding them ( and keeping them)- most are stockers- have a few stock rebuilds to start and finish , some are getting modded - have a few 'speed machines' in the works and a lone offroader ( all for personal use- no 'racing' machines). Some year down the road, id like to build a true 4x4 lawntractor out of my 90's GT6000 using an old wheelhorse trans up front.

I also have a 70's toro- a 550- that actually kicked off my collecting habit. Sometime i want to get it back to mowing status, it runs, but someone down the line threw out most of the deck parts, ill have to come up with a way to make it work - ill also need some new wheels, as the originals are long gone.

I see a few Vega's at the track and there is one in the 9's with a 406 small block. Here is my racer..70 Skylark 455 conversion...like you, cash flow sometimes can be a bother. I hurt my rockers at the track and now am saving up for an upgrade..

I also have a factory 1973 Buick GS 350 bench seat 4 speed car

As well as 3 1986 Century GS cars and many tractors....

I don't know what the production numbers are on that combo. But I think that it might be pretty rare. Considering that it's a Buick and the year. Thats when the first gas crisis was going on.

My green car ran a 13.20 with a broken rockershaft that dropped me to 7 cylinders so it wasn't running to it's potential. I figure low to mid 12's when I get rollers on the motor.

As for the 73,there were
979 GS 455's,
728 GS 455 Stage 1's
4,930 GS 350's
Of these, 365 were 4 speeds, the last year Buick made 4 speeds till FWD cars came with manual transmissions. Of them,92 were stage 1 cars leaving 273 455 and 350 cars. This car also was ordered special paint 65 Burnt Coral. That color was only available on Riviera's and had to be ordered in the Century. Ironically, there were 65 Burnt Coral GS's made.So mine is kinda rare though.

You have some cool cars there- i like the old el caminos and rancheros - my uncle bot an 80's elcamino from texas , he had it repainted and is doing a 'driver' restoration on it.

My wife wishes i did the buy, fix and sell deal with my tractors, but i look at it as recycling or keeping them from going to china. I have like 28 tractors, id like to get more just for parts if anything, but the wife said "No"- i havent really seen any cheepies around anyway.
