2007 Toyota Tundra

Seems to be a lot of talk about the 2007 Toytoa Tundra lately. Never took a look at them until today. Not a bad looking truck! Now if they would only offer it with a diesel and 6 speed manual transmission. Be advised the link below is for high speed internet. Dial up users may be kinda slow to see all the pictures.

Toyota goes BIG with 2007 Tundra

I looked at the full sized Toyota truck (wasn't it called T100?) several years ago. I liked the quality of it but at the time I was looking for a pickup with better gas milage without giving up the full sized cab - I know I am picky that way. It made sense for them to offer a full sized pickup since they would only need to create the body and drive train. They have a very smooth V8 available in the Lexus. As I recall it was only rated at 18 highway and 13 city mpg even with a 5 speed manual. At the time (mid 90's) pickup sales were going great and this was the only market segment they didn't have any thing to offer. They are nice trucks though.

What kind of prices did you see on them Chief?

I haven't looked into to them that far as of yet. I was hoping maybe you or some of the other members might have that info.

Chief,

For the same price you can get a 3/4 ton truck.

Toyota does make a nice car with what looks like a truck bed though.

No love, no room, no time.

That ain't a truck.

Save your money.

Let some city dude, that's a wannabe Cowboy buy the things.

Take a look at the tow rating.

It ain't in the same league as a 3/4 Ton truck that costs the same if you ignore the heated seats, and automated electronic Booger pickers.

Gotta admit though, it does have handsome lines.

I just wouldn't let my sister drive one....

I agree 1000%. I already have a truck that suits me to the T. It is a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins HO 4 x 4 6 speed manual modified with a few goodies like a Jacobs exhaust brake. The key is to convince my wife.

The Toyota caught my eye as a possibility for the Mrs. Chief. Her car (95 Ford Tarrass) has about 130,000 miles on it and we hope to nurse it to 200000 or better. With her and the 3 girls in the car, it is packed, no room for me anymore. The girls grew up fast!

I was thinking that a full size truck with 4 doors and a full rear seat would be just the thing for them. We live pretty far out in the country side and some of the roads we drive on requires 4WD. We also plan to build a house on another farm nearby but the road requires fording a stream. Not something cut out for a car. The Ford does OK but it is steadily falling apart.

I tried talking the wife into a nice Dodge Ram 2500 or 3500 but she is intimidated by the size of the truck and they ride or at least my truck rides like a buckboard. Doesn't bother me in the least but I think she wanted something not quite the size of my truck.

As the Toyota sits now, I would not buy one unless it came with a manual transmission and a diesel. Don't think I will ever own a GM or Ford product again after the problems we have had and the way we were treated. The Dodge has been a great truck. Wish I had 2 now. Had good luck with a Nissan in the past as well.

Chief,

Have ya taken a look at the new Jeep JK Unlimited?

For a "Troop mover" it ain't bad.

Lotsa room,4doors. and it's almost a real Jeep.

Agreed on GM and Ford customer service.

My own Chevy 2500HD needs some minor plastic parts that I see no reason to pay 400 bucks for.

Hang in there!!!
Ya ain't alone!!

Chief,

Swap out the wimpy drive shaft, for an aftermarket unit that is sturdy enough to slap a Rabbit with, and the thing might just be what you are looking for.

It ain't a truck, but it's a hell or high water Troop mover.

In the finest traditions of the Jeep.

Though it lacks in some places in the tradition.

Solid axles, bulletproof drive line. good Mill.

Just wish they stuck with the 232/258/4.0 and the torque curve starting at idle.

I resent the divorce from the old and trusted Kaiser long stroke mill.....

But as a replacement for the Cherokee, it's high time, and well done.

And a damn sight better than the Taurus for fording and rough muddy roads.

Take a gander and do the math.

Then put a "Hummer recovery vehicle" sticker on it, and be sure to wave to to me and the other sicko's!!!

Dadgum Taurus cars die slow.
Ya gotta love 'em for it.

Good Mules are loved.

Hang in there!!

Chief,

I think this is the Pic....
Apologies if it ain't.

Ya gotta make the'ol Lady happy, or ain't nobody happy

Lordy don't I know it!

Just another option.

Pardon my Bias.

I got jeep in the blood long ago.

It's ugly sometimes in comfort, but dangit, the others have fallen flat and stranded me, and every one of my Jeeps have worked with me to get home.

Yes, I wave.

Looks like it bares some resemblance to the Jeep Rescue concept vehicle. I was hoping they would go into production with it but it never happened.

Chief,

They extended the standard TJ tub, added a second set of doors, went nuts with the TJ suspension, and pretty much "Citified" the interior with lotsa cushy comfy stuff and electronic gizmos.

The stupid thing even has power windows!!

Been eyeballing the thing with a Buddy, on account of him having a Kid on the way, and him getting the DT's over potentially trading in his beloved Rubicon.

Saw one parked next to a Hummer H2, and darn if the Hummer has less interior room!!!

All the best!

Chief,

The JK allows room for 35" tires without a lift, and all of the other stuff can be bolted on later.

Some of the guys have already gone nuts on thier new JK's and have surpassed the Rescue concept.

I have an inside line with an Engineer at Daimler/Chrysler, and in fact the "Rescue" is part of the inspiration for the JK 4Dr unlimited.

Feasability and production costs eliminated some of the Rescues features.

At one point, the incorporation of a fold and tumble rear seat got so far out of hand, that the Tub was re-engineered to allow it several times, untill it just got too silly and expensive.

The JK is darn close.
No Cigar, but close.

Stay safe!!

Kid,

No offence, but the ridgeline wouldn't pull a Fat Broad out of a Doughnut shop, if she was on Roller skates and Uphill!!!

Unibodys have no place off road, or working for a living.

They do crumple nicely and predictably for safety concerning the masses going to and fro.

For a "Poser" off road vehicle sold to the many that only need a car and the "Image" of something other than a Kleenex mobille, it's well designed for it's role.

It'll likely rack up lots of trouble free miles as well.

Just don't ask it to wear the Pants of a Jeep, Landie, or Cruiser.

Mind the marketing.
They don't expect folks to actually get the thing muddy, just promise that it will work after it rains.

Ok, to jump in on this, my mom (don't judge, she offroads) bought one of these in 2007. Basically, we live in the middle of no where, and when it snows, I get to take the jeep out in the fields. While the electronics can occasionally be invading (can't be turned off) but it is an extremely capable vehicle stock. We are preparing to install a 4 inch lift and new wheels, to make it more capable. We enjoy it (I wish it was 6 sp. manual) a lot and can't wait for true summer.
