track vs. double / tripled wheels

Anyone has some general guidelines on when to choose double, tripled or tracks for row crop? Pros and cons of each? - Thanks

No such thing as 'guidelines' for this sort of thing.

Basically it comes down to compaction versus traction.

To avoid compaction you need less weight, to get traction you need more weight.

The trick is to get the tractor (in average soil conditions) down to under 10 psi of weight transmitted to the earth.

In other words, if the tractor weighs 5,000 pounds, you want that weight equally spread over at least 500 square inches of tire (or track) footprint.

Tracks are not a good choice if you have much distance to cover on hard surface roads.

I think I would factor in price also. By the time you buy triples it may be cost effective for tracks
