MF-3165 or JD-2030???
Here are the 2 Diesel Tractors that I have narrowed my search down to at the moment and that are within my budget. I plan to also spruce up which ever one I choose and repaint so keep that in mind determining costs. Please help me decide which route to go in...Thanks!
Massey 3165: It is in rougher shape cosmetically, but starts right up, runs good no smoke, missing several hood and body pieces and fenders are rough. Leaks a lot of diesel, seams to be coming from injectors and pump, but all systems seem to work fine. Includes older 6' King Kutter bush hog, rough shape box blade, auger with a couple different size bits, and a boom pole.
$2,000
JD 2030: It is in better cosmetic shape, only missing one battery compartment door and supposedly runs good and everything works, owner said it does have a slight leak from the PTO shaft, but that it works properly, also said he uses ether on the 1st start up, so Im sure the glow plugs need some work. Includes older 5' bush hog & roof canopy/rollbar.
$3000

I personally prefer the Massey's to the John Deere units, but in this case I'd go for the Deere. Less work up front, and it has a ROPS which is very important when using equipment like a mower. People tend to use them on hills and ditches, and it only takes one rollover to kill you. Just WEAR YOUR SEATBELT WITH A ROPS!!!!!!!!. I can't state this enough. The ROPS can't function if you aren't belted in. They provide a safe zone in a rollover and you need to stay within that safe zone, which the seat belt accomplishes. If you don't wear your belt with a ROPS, the ROPS can crush you in a roll over just as easily as the rest of the tractor. You can't hold on without a seatbelt, nor can you jump clear no matter how athletic you think you are. If you haven't driven a tractor before, and even if you have, I recommend taking a tractor safety course. There is nothing wrong with being extra safe. The Deere unit looks like it has been taken better care of, and Deere is pretty good about supplying parts. Massey is now owned by Agco, so who knows how many vintage parts will be available. If it wasn't a tractor that you had to use and rely on right off the bat, I'd go with the Massey just because they aren't as common as the Deere and I like unusual and not so everyday items myself. Also, look at the dealer network in your area. What dealers are close by, and how are they to deal with? Just because there are more of one dealer than the other, or one dealer is closer than the other brand's dealer, doesn't mean that that dealer is good to work with. Some dealers can be a real pain to get anything out of or don't do good work in the shop.

Thanks CB, i too liked the ROPS, I just need to run the tractor some this weekend to make sure Im comfortable on it...I also realized the JD has the hydraulic hookup in the back for implements, which I would like to have a nice hydraulic disc set for the garden and food plots @ the hunt camp...one downfall im noticing potentially is the JD may require me to also have to get a bigger trailer...this could be another 1,000-1500....decisions...Thanks for the input...
