Help!!!

guys hi, we've started this Deutz fahr tractor but cannot turn it off.

we are clueless.

can anyone help, turning the key back the way or even taking it out does nothing,
i considered disconnecting the battery but im not sure thatll work, do diesels even need a battery to run?

advice appreciated!

Welcome to tractor forum! They do. They have a fuel solinoid that cuts the fuel when you cut power. Sounds like your ignition switch is bad. So yes, disconnect the battery and that will do it until you can replace the ignition switch. Well hey! At least it's not the other way around!

That Deutz may have a separate fuel shut off lever or pull control. Look for a control on or near the dash or steering column that may shut off the fuel. Some, like my 1066 International have the control built into the throttle, whereby if you push the throttle past idle, it will shut the engine off. The fuel solenoid didn't have widespread use in tractors until the last 20 or so years, and I still encounter a few with a manual control. If it has a manual shutoff, pulling the battery will not shut the engine off.

guys, thanks. we figured it out. there was a clothes hanger type wire coming out the floor in the cab that we eventually spotted, and it died immediately when we pulled it. panic over )
