Warm enough bees are flying.

It's been warm enough the last couple of days the bees are doing cleansing flights, oraintion flights too. Looked at some here at home and they are up in the top bars of the top hive.
Figure the nights are to cold yet to place syrup on the bees so we put dry sugar on the, to hold them for a few weeks.

Some in the southeren states tell me they are starting to raise queens now. That will be mid May when we are able to start that.

Al

I have 3 hives that made it through the winter. They are flying and foraging for food. I put out some powdered sugar and wet it down for them. They have been eating it up like gang busters. They eat about about a 1 lb. per day.

I have 10 more 3 lb. packages coming in about 3 weeks. Hope these do better.

Da, I never had any one teach me. I got the bees, one colony didn't know shoe polish from any other black stuff but read books. Best thing I did was join a club. I learnt a lot from the oldest club members and the books I bought. I now am the guy the club members call for answers cause they know I have all these books now plus nearly 100 colonies in 12 bee yards and raise our own queens.

If I were in LA. I would be feeding 1:1 syrup and it drones are present raiseing queens. Package bees leave a lot to be disired. Buy local nucs if you can find them.

Got my 10 packages of bees installed and they seem to be doing very well. The heavy rains triggered a huge clover bloom and the girls are busy, busy, busy!

Haven't heard from you in awhile Al. Hope you are well and hope to see on TF soon.
