Is that flood water from a nearby creek/river or just a low spot in the land?

The very top photo if you look at it, in the background there is a row of trees, well that is the Loosahatchie River. Loosahatchie River

The area I live in (SE WI) is a large sod producer for the midwest and two years ago (June 2008) I could have posted pictures much like that. HUGE areas of water, almost as far as you could see. For years and years they cut sod and never replaced the ground that they took out. Over time their fields ended up several feet below the surrounding land and roads and when the heavy rains came a couple years ago, they filled like swimming pools. Some of the sod farms never recovered.

Yeah at Wistl Sod Farm in New Berlin, WI the farm got so wet we couldn't harvest for a week or two. Luckily summer break just started and by the time I got to work it was almost dry again. But after all that rain the rest of the year was dry and we had to be very carefull not to make big ruts with the case 585C fork truck. You got too much rain and you cant operate, then you get little rain and you have to use ditch water and run sprinklers all day. It is what it is, luckily your equipment didnt wash away.

Like my name says, I live in Wind Lake and if you're in the sod business, you know there are a lot of farms out here. I know one farmer who gave up on sod and went into soy beans.

But you're right, there's either too much water ... or not enough water. Never seems to be a happy medium.

That's nuts. There wasn't a lot of news coverage while it was happening, so I thought maybe it wasn't going to be that bad. Seeing pics of it I'm surprised it didn't receive as much attention as it should of. Where did you weather out the storm Morgan?

That sucks, looks like you might want to check you differential fluids in case water got in?

The water is back to normal and we are hauling grass like crazy, we have hauled 24 loads this week with 9 loads of pickups and we still have tomorrow to finish the week out. Every bit of the sod we have hauled and sold was Palisades or Myers Z-52 except for 2 loads of Bermuda Rolls. A load is 22 pallets or 25 rolls.

Looking a bit like Katrina down there. I'm a bit more elevated, so don't need to worry about flooding, despite living on the great Hoodoo creek, but I know what it must be like. Ouch! Hope the sun comes around and dries you all out a bit.
