I always stop by those places first when looking for things.
Good stuff at good prices.

I'll be back Sunday, camera in hand.

Between the 'usual' back problems and the 'new' arm problem, I didn't get anything 'done' all weekend! Fred still has not gathered any blocks. He may have to use some wood to fill in the blanks, so he can get the roof sealed up.

Fred is truly 'King of the Heap'! Since 5 garages in the 'hood' needed better lighting, Fred hauled this load home today! They are dirty, but they all work! 4 tube flourescents.

Any progress? I'm betting you find gold bars in there at some point.

Fred has moved to 'warmer' projects. Me, not taking 'NO' for an answer, did the rough in on his new barrel stove tonite!
I laid it on it's side, cut the clean-out door and the feeding door in the end, then cut a 5"hole in the back for the heavy wall pipe he had laying there.
Since the barrel used to contain used oil, I put the pipe in place and shoved it full of cardboard and rags and lit it off! The smoke was thick for about 15 minutes, then it settled down to clean fire flying out the pipe!
Now it's clean enough to weld on without choking me to death.
I will try to have it ready for service for the weekend.

I have never been in his basement before, but tonite I SAW his 'BARREL STOVE' that has been there for 10 YEARS!! It is the 'kit' that Country boy posted on the 'new to wood heat' link.
I will be installing a 'clone of my own design' in 2 of my houses in the year 2012!
If Captain Jack chooses to sleep in, his propane kicks in. Otherwise, the barrel stove keeps him warm.

Seems you can save a lot of money that way. How much wood does he go through?

Actually, not that much cause he gets BTU's off of every stick.
He had it 'ideling' and it was 90 degrees down there.
If your floor is 90 degrees, everything above it will be warm.
I left him almost a pick-up load of locust. He's actually heating 2 houses next door to each other. He was still burning what I left 4 days later.
Both houses have barrell stoves in the basement. The one has natural gas back-up and the other has propane.
OK, the houses are 'neighbors, but one is 200 yards away from the gas line, so propane was a better choice.
PS, Fred hauled a load of new cinderblocks in friday! Weather guesser calling for 45 degrees all day today.
I'll be at the farm as soon as it gets daylight. I'll be here Sunday to help Fred after I cut wood for a couple hours.
Jack has a 'man cave' too! He bought a shipping container, put it next to a steep bank and burried it! He insulated the inside and put a 'porch' on the end! He said that it has never been below 45 degrees in the winter or over 60 degrees in the summer! SWEET!!

Fred got more blocks up this week. He was gone by time I got home.
I did help him carry the blocks to the back wall and hauled 15 buckets of dirt away for him.
Then I made a major improvement to the 'hood'. I went to the farm and loaded my big compressor and Plazma cutter in the truck and brought them home for the winter! Let the SPARKS FLY!! Daughter's BF is going to get me 8 barrells from work this week. With the Plaz here, barrell stoves will be mass produced!
Jack and I cut wood Sunday. My pile is getting bigger again. I left 2 large trees in his yard. I cut the one up, then I must have hit a nail or something burried in the last tree. I made 6 cuts with Husqvarna, then it was cutting in circles. I finished up with the 18" Poulan that I had been using all afternoon.
I told Jack that when the Husky goes down, I go home! That tree was too big for the Poulan. He said that was OK cause he was worn out. (He's about 70)

Jack has about 10 acres of trees. Many of them are dead or dying.
This started out clearing the ones that might fall on his carport. It has blossomed into 'Clear-cut that hill'! ( about 1 1/2 acres )
A windstorm last month knocked (2) 36" oak trees across his driveway and he had to cut for 2 days by himself to get his car out! A week later, I called him about the fire at the airport. He mentioned 'trees'. I said, I'm IN!!

I've seen some massive trees like that fall around here and they have to get the city involved.
They chip the wood but it seems something better could be done with it.

Fred's heater!
I carried the new stove to Freds Sunday morning. Tonite, I over-loaded it and lit it off. I was trying to burn the paint off before we moved it inside.
The stack was 40" scrap of pipe. I had fire flying out the top.
I'm happy with the initial 'test'. It won't burn him down.
I started on this one at 9:30 am and carried it across the alley at 12:30. It could look better if I took some time. I didn't have much of that.

There wasn't a lot of wood. 2 plywood scraps and a 24" piece of dryed oak. That part held for an hour. I used rags and cardboard to make sure it got hot quickly.
