Ingersoll Charging

My Ingersoll 4016 charging system is acting up. When I start the tractor,a meter at the battery shows a charge of 14Volts. Then it slowly drops down to around 12V and the charge indicator light illuminates. I'm assuming because it is charging, that the charging stator is functioning, and the rectifier is faulting. Please give me your opinions on this subject before I spend a million for a rectifier.
PS Can I disconnect the rectifier and check if a full charge is coming from the stator using a volt meter?

Don't know any specifics about your equipment. Rectifier shouldn't have anything to do with voltage. What the rect does is rectify the AC to DC. You do not want to bypass the rect and pass the current to the battery. You'd be passing AC in to DC circuits/components.

It might help if you could supply a pic of the component you are talking about and a wiring diagram would be a big bonus.

Yea, a little late. It was the rectifier. The rectifier not only converts AC to DC, it also regulates the amount of current Volts to the battery. Purchased a new $80.00 rectifier, installed, all is good
