Ignition problem

My ingersoll rider all the sudden started not turning off when you turn the key off. If I want to shut it off I need to pull the plug wires to kill the motor. Anyone got any suggestions . Thanks

Check Ignition switch, follow the wire that runs from the coil to the switch and use a multimeter to check continuity.

Would be nice and more helpful if you had given us more info on your machine. Typ wiring for many/most riding mowers is the ign switch grounds the mag to shut the engine off. I suspect IF the machine and ign switch are older models, the switch has failed. I've had to replace the switch in my old Bolens several time to fix a sim problem.

I replaced the switch and that still did not help. Will check wiring to see if it is grounding out properly.

I'm going to assume that the engine is an ONAN twin,in which case the coil is fed battery voltage to fire the plugs, instead of induction,as in the briggs. If so,I've experienced the same problem,on a 446.check the + side of the coil terminals to see if there is voltage with the key OFF.If there is,either there's a short in the wire harness,or the ignition switch is "arcing",and needs replacing. It will, most likeley,be the switch, but check the wiring, just to make sure.
